In Memorium: Buzz Bands
Due to the massive L.A. Times layoffs, Mr. Kevin Bronson is no longer writing the excellent six-year-old Buzz Bands column, nor will Buzz Bands continue (for the Times, at least). The Times losing Bronson is exactly that–a loss–for not only the newspaper (or, especially, for Bronson) but the Los Angeles music scene in general. Bronson’s witty and nimble prose beneath the Times’ banner brought a legitimacy to the coverage of local music, with his consistent insights into the sounds of the scene, as well as the sheer excitement that comes with hearing it (put him in a room with Minipop covering Catherine Wheel and see what happens). Buzz Bands’ contribution to local music was/is huge, and, to be honest, I can’t top how Mouse put it:
“Let it be said that the print and internet music world became a little more illiterate this week.”
The final installment of Bronson’s Buzz Bands column will be published in today’s copy of the L.A. Times. Go get one.
