Podcast: Jeff Tweedy and Jay Bennett live and acoustic @ the Folk Roots Festival, Chicago (7.25.99)

As the tributes continue to roll out for Jay Bennett, the former Wilco guitarist, solo artist and session musician who died in his sleep on Sunday–for an especially good one, check out Aquarium Drunkard’s–Web in Front will be no different. Though, as there is nothing that I can say that hasn’t already been eulogized for this gifted fallen musician, who has worked on no less than three of my all-time favorite albums–Wilco’s Being There, Summerteeth and, of course, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot–I’ll offer a tribute by way of podcast: a gorgeous, expansive live set in which he and Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy shared a stage and over twenty songs, an acoustic jaunt that skips from WIlco originals to Americana covers with ease and energy (including the always excellent “California Stars”) and highlights the musical spark that was held between the two men before they fell into acrimonious dispute a year later during the YHF sessions. He will be missed. Podcast and setlist after the jump.
