A message from the “real” Indie 103.1, minus the corporate filter
This was on Indie 103.1’s Myspace page over the weekend, from an Indie staff member concerning the station’s demise:
The decision came from higher authorities and it was not for the reason that has been stated in the prerecorded message that had been repeating on 103.1 or the message that was on the front page of indie1031.com.
It’s insulting to you and the staff of Indie 103.1 for the owners to say that we decided to pull the station off the air because we didn’t want to play the corporate radio game. I’m mean really, do you think we’d just roll over and give the airwaves to “Puffy” after all we’ve been through together? When was the last time anybody called him Puffy anyway? That should tell you all you need to know.
The entire staff of Indie 103.1 was fired Thurs day morning immediately after the farewell sign- off. One person was asked to remain to maintain the website and we do not begrudge our friend the opportunity to earn a living. The stream will be most of the same fine music we left on the computers there but will lack the heart and soul of the station. Some shows will be running on the stream until they find their new on-air home. (No, there will be no Jonesy’s Jukebox)
We want you to know that efforts are under way to bring your Indie back to the airwaves of Los Angeles. We will inform you of when and how you will have the opportunity to participate in this process.
We appreciate your support.
XO – Indie
Though that probably doesn’t quite come as a surprise to anyone, it’s nice to know that not everyone at Indie is pretending this was a move to stop playing “the corporate game.”
